Due to security concerns, Kwara State’s traditional worshippers have been requested to postpone their Isese celebration.
In a statement signed and released on Monday by SP Okasanmi Ajayi, the Kwara State command of the Nigeria Police issued a warning to traditional worshipers.
According to this news source, Isese Day will be observed in the state on August 20, 2023, by adherents of traditional religion.
However, they were advised to move the event because the state’s security condition did not permit such a celebration.
The Police Command claimed to have spoken with the worshippers and given them advice on where to hold the celebration in another state of the nation.
“Vigilante, local hunters, community policing members, the leadership of the traditional worshippers in Kwara, as well as some of their leaders from neighboring states, have also been dialogued with and made to understand that the intelligence available to the Police Command does not favor the type of celebrations being planned by one of the religious sects in the state; they have been advised to relocate their celebration to another state while this is being investigated,” the statement reads.
The force stated that it intended to execute a new policy to maintain peaceful coexistence among the populace and prevent criminal activity in all regions of the state, adding that the Police will undertake 24-hour stop and search operations on persons and vehicles in the state.
The statement continued, “In continuation of the Kwara State Police Command’s laborious effort to ensure a safe and secure State for the good people of Kwara, the Commissioner of Police Kwara State Command, CP.
Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi psc+, FISN held a meeting with Service Commanders, consisting of heads of all security agencies in the state, where the security situation of the state was discussed and existing strategies were dissected.
“New security strategies have been put into place all around Kwara State.
Harmony Security Week is one of the tactics used to deter crime and criminality in the state.
Vigorous motorized, foot, and stop-and-search operations will all be a part of this operation.
“To that end, the CP is using this medium to notify the good people of Kwara State of the special security operation and advise the people not to panic or be apprehensive when confronted by the policemen on duty but to comport themselves and submit themselves for body and vehicle searches whenever they are requested to do so.
The officers assigned to the assignment have received instruction and a warning to uphold citizens’ rights while performing their jobs.
The Command therefore advised would-be lawbreakers to avoid Kwara State in all guises and nomenclatures since anyone identified to pose a security danger would be detained and prosecuted.
