Isaac James Martin pleads guilty to causing Zlatko’s death

Isaac James Martin, a prisoner at Wolston Correctional Centre in Queensland, has pleaded guilty to unlawfully striking and causing the death of Zlatko Sikorsky, a fellow inmate who was on remand for killing his teenage girlfriend.

Martin admitted to striking Sikorsky in the head during a violent jailhouse bashing in November 2020, leading to his death in hospital days later.

Martin represented himself during his arraignment and made a bizarre quip about Judge Judy to Supreme Court Justice Peter Callaghan as his matter was adjourned for sentencing.

The court was told that Martin previously had legal representation, but it was withdrawn after he refused to see a psychiatrist in prison.

Martin claimed that he did not mean to kill Sikorsky and that he thought he was getting attacked, but Justice Callaghan recommended that he save his submissions until his sentencing.

A pre-sentence report will be prepared before Martin’s sentencing on April 6.

Sikorsky was awaiting trial for torturing and murdering his teenage girlfriend, Larissa Beilby, at a property in Buccan in 2018 when he was killed.
