Iran sentenced three more people to death in connection with the Amini demonstrations

Iran has sentenced to death three individuals accused of murdering three members of the security forces following protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini, the country’s judiciary announced on Monday.

Since the September 16 death of Kurdish Iranian Amini, 22, following her imprisonment for allegedly breaching Iran’s strict dress code for women, the Islamic republic has been rocked by civic unrest.

The most recent death sentences, which are still subject to appeal, bring the total number of persons sentenced to death in connection with the over three-month-long protests to 17.

After the country’s supreme court upheld their death sentences, four of those convicted have been killed while two others remain on execution row.

Saleh Mirhashemi, Majid Kazemi, and Saeed Yaghoubi were condemned to death for “moharebeh,” or “waging war against God,” according to the Mizan Online news website of the Iranian judiciary.

Mizan stated that two others were sentenced to prison for the November 16 incident that resulted in the deaths of three security force members in the central province of Isfahan.

Additionally, lawyers in Tunisia protest a tax increase on legal services.

It was added that all sentences may be appealed to the Supreme Court.

Iran killed Mohammad Mehdi Karami and Seyed Mohammad Hosseini on Saturday for killing a member of a paramilitary unit in Karaj, west of Tehran, in November.

In December, two more individuals, Mohsen Shekari and Majidreza Rahnavard, were executed for separate attacks against security forces.

Additionally, Iran releases football players jailed at a mixed-gender party.

The killings have provoked international anger and additional penalties against Tehran from the West.
