Indian guy dies from snakebite after attending brother’s funeral

An Indian guy who traveled to the burial of his brother who died from a snake bite last week was killed by a snake bite the next day.

Govid Mishra, 22, traveled 50 miles to Bhawanipur hamlet in the province of Punjab in the north of the subcontinent to attend his 38-year-old brother’s burial.

Police verified Govid’s death from a snake bite the next day, barely two days after his elder brother, Arvind Mishra, died from a snake bite as well.

In the same snake incident, family member Chandrashekar Pandey, 22, was bitten while sleeping on the same property as Govid and is now at serious condition in the hospital.

‘Govind Mishara was murdered after being bitten by a snake in his sleep,’ said officer Radha Raman Singh.

‘One of the family’s relatives, Chandrashekar Pandey, 22, who was also in the same residence, was bitten by a snake.’

Govind and Chandrashekar had traveled from Punjab’s Ludhiana to attend Arvind’s death rites, and it will come as a sad irony to the rest of the family that they, too, had been put down by a snake.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 5 million snakebites occur in India each year, with almost half of them being piousness.

According to reports, between 81,000 and 138,000 people die each year. Furthermore, snakebites result in up to 400,000 amputations and other severe impairments.Govid Mishra, 22, died from a snake bite while he slept after attending the funeral of his brother, Arvind, 38, who also died from a snake bite in the Indian state of Punjab. Many snakebites go unreported, sometimes because victims seek non-medical treatment or lack access to health care, thus the real number of bites might be substantially higher.

Vipers and cobras are the most frequent poisonous snakes in India, but the common krait is the deadliest, accounting for an estimated 10,000 fatalities per year.
