Incorrect truck surfing? Young child dies climbing a vehicle

A five-year-old kid was struck by a truck, prompting the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department to urge community members to be cautious around children playing in the streets.

The event apparently occurred in Etwatwa on January 4th.

Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa, a spokeswoman for the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, stated that the little kid is believed to have lost his footing while attempting to climb into the rear loading bed of the moving vehicle. Unfortunately, his injuries proved fatal.

Thepa reported that on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at around 4:24 p.m., at the intersection of Darter Street and Drongo Street in Etwatwa, a five-year-old African boy succumbed to his injuries after being struck by a truck.

“The white Toyota truck was traveling north on Darter Street and making a right turn onto Drango Street when the minor attempted to jump onto the truck’s rear loading bed. The small youngster then lost his footing and went beneath the truck.

“Unfortunately, the kid succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the site. “The child’s remains were transported to the Springs mortuary,” she stated.
