In Iowa, a shooter opens fire in a church parking lot, killing two people and himself

In the parking lot of an Iowa church, a man shot and killed two people before turning the pistol on himself.

After two female members of the Cornerstone Church in Armes, Iowa, were shot dead by an unidentified shooter on Thursday about 7 p.m., members of the church gathered in the parking lot to console one another.

According to investigators, the shooter committed suicide after the incident.

It’s unknown whether the three were acquainted or what their motivation was at the time. After a church service, police will address the public about 11.30 a.m. EST.

According to Nicholas Lennie, chief deputy of the Story County Sheriff’s Office, the violent incident occurred inside while the Summer Salt – a program for college-aged members – was in session. Around 1,300 youngsters are expected to attend the program each week. The first meeting of the summer was held yesterday.

When deputies arrived on the site, all three were dead, Lennie said, adding that he couldn’t reveal their identities or the nature of their relationship.

‘This appears to be a one-off, single-shooter occurrence,’ said Lennie.
