In addition to responding to the requests of the academic staff union of universities, the federal government has been urged to take immediate action to rectify the nation’s decreasing educational standards.

In particular, Professor Emmanuel Oyemomi, Rector of the Baptist College of Theology in Lagos, who made the call, urged the Federal Government to respond to the demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in light of the crippling effects the protracted strike is having on students and access to higher education in Nigeria.

He claimed that given the difficulties the Nigerian education industry is currently facing, the call had become urgent.

Professor Oyemomi remarked that the ongoing ASUU strike had constantly affected students’ access to education and believed that the government needed to clean up its act and raise the standard of education in the nation.

In order to comply with international best practices, he noted, there should also be a holistic approach to addressing the inconsistencies in Nigeria’s educational curriculum.
