If Trump runs for president in 2024, Pence suggests he won’t back him

Former Vice President Mike Pence intimated on Wednesday that he would not back his former campaign mate, former President Donald Trump, if he ran for office again.

Pence told students at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., “Well, there could be somebody else I’d prefer more.”

Pence was specifically asked if he will support Trump in 2024.

The former vice president received praise for his remarks that hinted he may enter the race.

Pence stated, “What I can tell you is that I am certain the Republican Party will straighten out its leadership.” All of my attention has been on the midterm elections, and that will continue for the next two weeks.

Pence continued, “But after that, we’ll be thinking about the future, ours and the nation’s.” ‘I’ll keep you posted.’

Trump continued to hint at a 2024 bid last week.

Politico claimed that during a fundraiser at his Mar-a-Lago club, he promised participants he would disclose his political future “pretty soon” and that people would be “extremely delighted.”

The most unequivocal declaration to date was made during the summer when he told New York Magazine, “In my own mind, I’ve already decided.”

This weekend, the former president will hold a major political event in the red state of Texas, despite the region not facing competitive 2022 elections.

Pence has been simultaneously hosting donor retreats and constructing a political apparatus that he may utilize to launch his own 2024 campaign.

Trump and Pence fell out after four years of co-governance when Pence declined to overturn the 2020 election when he presided over the joint session of Congress on January 6 to declare President Joe Biden’s victory.

Trump has since stated that he would choose a different running mate if he ran again.

Other Republicans are likewise laying the groundwork for presidential campaigns.

Politico reported on the efforts of Senators Tom Cotton and Tim Scott earlier this month.

Mayor of Miami Francis Suarez stated on Monday that he was also considering a run.

In addition, the Republican governor of Arkansas, Asa Hutchinson, who has been critical of Trump, has expressed interest in running for president.
