Huntington Park police kill double amputee Anthony Lowe Jr

A double amputee was shot and killed by a gang of California police officers on Thursday as he attempted to flee on his stumps after leaping out of his wheelchair.

Anthony Lowe Jr., a 36-year-old father of two, was shot by the three officers from the Huntington Park Police Department at least eight times, according to surveillance footage.

According to the police department, Lowe Jr. had just attacked a person without provocation and was attempting to flee from two policemen.

He may be seen on the incidental video standing next to his wheelchair, which he had jumped from, in front of two police officers.

He turned and made an attempt to flee quickly while holding a big butcher’s knife in one hand.

A third officer appeared from a second police cruiser that had just arrived. He was first tased, which, according to a police news statement, was “ineffective.”

They opened fire numerous times within 15 seconds of the third officer’s arrival, hitting Lowe in the upper chest.

They put him in handcuffs after he was laying on the ground on his stomach.

“Huntington Park Officers tased the offender at least twice, but the use of the taser was ineffectual.”

According to a press statement from the LA County Sheriff’s Office, an officer-involved shooting happened as the suspect tried to hurl the butcher knife at the officers once again.

Later, Lowe Jr. passed away there. His family is now pressing the police for an explanation.

No names of the implicated policemen have yet been released. It is yet unknown whether they have been given leave.

The incident, which occurred three weeks after unarmed 29-year-old Tyre Nichols was killed by a separate squad of police officers in Memphis, Tennessee, is now being looked into by the LA County Sheriff’s Office.

They killed my kid, who was seated in a wheelchair without legs. At a news conference on Sunday, his mother, Dorothy Lowe, said that “they do need to do something about it.”

His family revealed to The LA Times that he just lost the lower part of each leg as a result of another incident with Texas police.

No further information was provided.
