Hugh Jackman, who just finished a successful run of The Music Man on Broadway says playing Wolverine damaged his voice

Hugh Jackman has revealed that his ability to sing has been affected by his role as Wolverine in the X-Men films. The actor explained that the vocal cords have been damaged by the “growling and yelling” required for the role.

He said his falsetto is “not as strong as it used to be” as a result. Speaking on BBC’s Front Row, Jackman said that his vocal teacher at drama school would have been “horrified” with some of the things he did while playing the Marvel superhero.

The actor said he is working on it and trying not to hurt himself, with a focus on physical movement and vocal preparation for every role.

Jackman recently finished his successful run in The Music Man on Broadway, and will next appear in Deadpool 3, which is scheduled for release in November 2024.

He first played Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, and has since portrayed the character in nine films. Deadpool 3 will be his tenth appearance as the character.

Ryan Reynolds and Jackman announced the news of the character’s return in a video posted in September. The actor has said he will begin his training regimen for the role immediately after finishing his current work.
