Horror pile-up involving three vehicles causes M25 motorway closure

This morning, a horror pile-up involving three vehicles – a car, a van, and an HGV lorry – led to the closure of the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 motorway between junction 23 at South Mimms and junction 22 at St Alban’s.

The closure lasted three hours, causing huge delays for drivers in the area.

Two people were rushed to the hospital – one male was airlifted to St Mary’s Hospital in London in critical condition, while another male was taken to Barnet General Hospital.

All lanes were reopened just after 9:30 am, but delays of up to six miles remained in the area.

The East of England Ambulance Service and the Hazardous Area Response Team and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance responded to the incident.

The Hertfordshire police were also at the scene early this morning, and temporary road closures were implemented to allow emergency services access and vehicle recovery.

The National Highways East confirmed that a recovery is in place, and a clear-up is ongoing.

All lanes have reopened anti-clockwise between junction 22 and junction 23, and a 20-minute delay remains in the area, but it should start to ease. Drivers passing through the area were urged to plan their journey before setting off, as they endured three hours of disruption this morning.
