Hoffenheim win puts Bayern one point behind top spot

Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Hoffenheim allowed Bayern Munich to close to within one point of Bundesliga leaders Union Berlin.

Bayern took the lead in the 17th minute when 19-year-old Jamal Musiala, unmarked at the far post, side-footed in a corner kick taken by Joshua Kimmich.

After 38 minutes, Bayern forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting doubled the visitors’ lead with his fourth goal in three games.

The maturity of Bayern’s players was credited to coach Julian Nagelsmann, who returned to the site of his coaching debut at the age of 28.

Nagelsmann told SID, “I’m very pleased with the performance; we could have scored five goals in the first 35 minutes.”

It was a very assured and mature performance.

The victory marked the first time since August that Bayern have won consecutive Bundesliga games.

“Best response”

Borussia Dortmund defeated Stuttgart 5-0, with English teen Jude Bellingham scoring twice.

Bellingham headed in a cross from former Bayern center-back Niklas Suele to give Dortmund the lead after only two minutes. Prior to that, Dortmund had scored only 13 goals in 10 Bundesliga games this season.

Julian Brandt’s cross was deflected in by Suele, who scored ten minutes later.

The American teen Gio Reyna added another goal late in the first half, and in the 53rd minute, Bellingham scored a magnificent solo goal to put the game beyond doubt.

In the 72nd minute, Youssoufa Moukoko scored his fourth goal of the season by tapping in a cross from Raphael Guerreiro.

The manager, Edin Terzic, stated that the entire team was responsible for the goals, not just those listed on the scoresheet.

“These were team objectives. We won the balls and played as a cohesive unit.”

Julian Brandt, a midfielder, stated that the victory was “the best response to criticism.”

Bayer Leverkusen continued its unlucky start under Xabi Alonso with a 2-2 home draw against Wolfsburg.

After 11 minutes, Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby missed a penalty by pushing a weak shot just wide of the goal. Despite being awarded six penalty kicks in 11 games, Leverkusen have been unable to score from the penalty spot this season.

Two minutes later, Diaby gave Leverkusen the lead, before conceding an own goal to German midfielder Robert Andrich.

Leverkusen then conceded a controversial penalty for what appeared to be a foul by Wolfsburg attacker Lukas Nmecha, with Wolfsburg captain Max Arnold converting the spot kick.

Jeremie Frimpong scored a late equalizer for the home team, but they remain in 14th place with just two victories in 11 contests.

After the Augsburg team was reduced to 10 men, Leipzig rallied from a 3-0 deficit to earn a 3-3 draw.

Mergim Berisha, Ermedin Demirovic, and Ruben Vargas’ goals gave the home team a commanding lead before Iago’s red card in the 65th minute brought Leipzig back into the contest.

Leipzig scored three goals in 18 minutes courtesy of Andre Silva, Christopher Nkunku, and Hugo Novoa to equalize prior to Tuesday’s crucial Champions League home match against Real Madrid.

Freiburg bounced back from last week’s thrashing by Bayern by defeating Werder Bremen 2-0 in the second half to reclaim third place.

Borussia Moenchengladbach hosts Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday night.
