Her Majesty the Queen reappoints Susan Hoyle as a Lay Commissioner of the Judicial Appointments Commission


On the recommendation of the Lord Chancellor, Her Majesty the Queen has reappointed Susan Hoyle as a Lay Commissioner of the Judicial Appointments Commission.

Susan Hoyle has been reappointed for three years beginning 1 August 2022 as a Lay Commissioner of the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC).

The JAC is an independent body that chooses candidates for judicial office in courts and tribunals in England and Wales, as well as for those tribunals having authority across the United Kingdom. Candidates are chosen based on their merit in a free and open competition.

Under Schedule 12(1) of the Constitutional Reform Act of 2005, JAC Commissioners are appointed by Her Majesty the Queen on the advice of the Lord Chancellor. The Judicial Appointment Commission Regulations 2013 govern the appointment of commissioners.

The Commissioner for Public Appointments regulates appointments, and recruiting procedures according to the Governance Code for Public Appointments.

Biography

On 1 August 2019, Susan was appointed as a Lay Commissioner of the JAC. Susan has held a variety of executive and non-executive positions, mostly in the arts, such as Deputy Secretary-General of Arts Council England and Director of Clore Leadership. She chairs the Learning and Participation Committee of the Royal Opera House Covent Garden Foundation, where she serves as a Trustee.
