Heidi Klum worried she’d suffocate in her life-size worm costume for Halloween

Heidi Klum thought that she would suffocate while wearing her Halloween worm costume.

Klum made the eye-catching costume look effortless when hosting her 21st annual Halloween party on Monday, but she shared a few behind-the-scenes insights with Entertainment Tonight’s Will Marfuggi.

She told the newspaper that donning the suit, which was developed by Mike Marino of Prosthetics Renaissance, occasionally caused her concern.

“I had to roll everywhere,” Klum told ET. “I just said to my husband, ‘Please don’t leave me flat on my face and suffocate’ because I was scared that I was gonna, at some point, not have any gas left. I was concerned that I would be trapped and unable to breathe while they forget about me. Crazy thoughts go through your head.”

Klum said being inside the costume “weird” because it makes speaking tough. Except for her lips, eyes, and a small space for her shoes, her entire body was covered in ridged prosthetics.

“It was odd to be in there, because no one could hear me,” Klum told ET. “This environment makes it impossible to hear anyone. Everything is muffled at all times. Therefore, it is quite cramped and sweltering inside. Literally, it resembles a shower. It’s dripping, dripping, dripping and yep, you can’t do anything. You can’t scratch, you can’t point.”

Klum’s highly anticipated celebration was hosted at Sake No Hana at Moxy Lower East Side in New York City. It is Klum’s first Halloween party since 2020 and 2021, when she canceled the celebrations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Klum was photographed at the occasion alongside her husband, Tom Kaulitz, who posed as a bleeding fisherman using her worm as bait. Klum also posed with her daughter Leni, who arrived as Catwoman and is 18 years old. The party featured a DJ set by Questlove and a star-studded guest list, including Antoni Porowski from Queer Eye and Elon Musk, the new owner of Twitter.

While Klum charmed visitors with her costume, she ultimately removed the cumbersome worm prosthetics and donned a different outfit. Klum wore a sheer catsuit embellished with crystals and stiletto heels, but retained the worm mask.

In a later interview with Vogue, Klum revealed that her team urged her to choose a different Halloween costume this year, but she opted for the worm.

She told Vogue, “I like to do the unexpected, so I wanted to come up with a costume that is both ludicrous and recognizable.” “Because it is Halloween, you need to be a little bit sick and repulsive,”
