However, Fitzwilliams believes that the episode itself is not the reason for their declining popularity.
Fitzwilliams stated that a recent Newsweek poll revealed that the support for the couple has “collapsed” in the United States after the publication of Harry’s memoir “Spare,” where he made several allegations against his family and revealed personal information. Fitzwilliams added that there was “plenty to laugh at” in the memoir, such as Harry’s description of his drug-taking past and losing his virginity in unusual circumstances. The commentator also attributed their declining popularity to their “narcissistic and selfish behaviour.”
In interviews with the likes of ITV and Good Morning America before and after the book’s release, Harry spoke about his strained relationship with his brother, Prince William, and the competition between them. Polls suggest that this strategy has not been successful, with a recent Newsweek poll revealing that only 32% of respondents liked Harry, while 42% disliked him, giving him a net approval rating of -10. Meanwhile, Meghan had a net rating of -17, with only 27% of Americans liking her.
Despite the mocking portrayal of the couple in South Park, it is not the reason behind their declining popularity. There have been rumors that the couple could sue the makers of the cartoon, but a spokesperson has denied these claims. However, Fitzwilliams believes that the episode will make a lot of people laugh at the couple’s “ruthlessly controlling and self-centered” behavior.
