Gunman fires at mother’s house.

The Newcastle Crown Court found Aaron Giles, 29, and Kevin Chapman, 40, guilty of possessing a firearm with the intention to endanger life after a gunman fired a shotgun at the front door of a property in South Shields.

CCTV footage captured the terrifying moment when the unidentified shooter fired two shots at the house, endangering two adults and a toddler inside.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Giles had engaged in a “tit-for-tat” row with Ryan Carr, but the reason for the dispute remains unclear.

The dispute escalated after Giles sent the gunman to Carr’s property where he was living with his partner, Sharna Hadaway, and her toddler.

The gunman’s accomplices, Giles and Chapman, were found guilty, but the man who fired the shots has not been brought to justice.

The footage showed the gunman approaching the property, opening the garden gate, firing two shots from the shotgun at the front door, and then fleeing the scene on foot. Giles and Chapman were found not guilty of conspiracy to murder, but guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Prosecutor Jamie Hill KC told the court that there had been shouting outside the house, leading Carr and Hadaway to investigate shortly before the gunman opened fire.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Jenkins of Northumbria Police stated that it was fortunate that nobody was seriously injured or killed in the incident.

The detective commended the work of the detectives and staff from across the force and colleagues at the Crown Prosecution Service for their continued support.

Jenkins stressed that incidents of this nature are rare in the area, but when they do occur, the police are committed to acting quickly and robustly. Giles and Chapman are set to be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court on May 5.
