Unknown gunman kills a restaurant guild leader in Mexico

Due to gang activity and drug trafficking, Guerrero is one of Mexico’s most violent states.
The state prosecutor’s office reported that the guild’s chief was shot and killed on Sunday in the Mexican beach town of Acapulco.

Jesus Rivera was shot and killed in the early morning hours outside the nightclub he owned by unidentified gunmen who then fled, according to state authorities in Guerrero’s southern area.

In a statement, the agency stated that “the state prosecutor’s office began an inquiry against individuals responsible for the crime of aggravated homicide.”

One of the busiest times of the year for the town, with tourists swarming to the area’s gorgeous beaches, the attack happened at the beginning of the summer vacation season.

According to local media, there have been at least three attacks on nightclubs in Acapulco in recent months.

At least three individuals were slain in an Acapulco restaurant shooting in April, which was followed by a police pursuit. People were seen racing down the beach when gunshots were heard in a video that was released on social media and YouTube.

This shooting occurred just days after six men’s dismembered heads were allegedly found on top of a Volkswagen in the Guerrero state hamlet of Chilapa de Alvarez.

Due to the existence of criminal gangs and drug trafficking, Guerrero on Mexico’s Pacific coast is one of the most violent states in the country.

Since December 2006, when a contentious military anti-drug operation was initiated, Mexico has recorded more than 340,000 violent deaths tied to organised crime.
