The confirmation was made after the Senate resolved to an executive session on Thursday.

Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Tinubu, presented the list before the Senate, which comprised 28 nominees.

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, the former National Publicity Secretary of the defunct Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warned President Tinubu against including Nyesom Wike in his ministerial appointee list.

Speculations have been circulating about Wike’s potential ministerial position under the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

Eze acknowledged President Tinubu’s right to appoint ministers but cautioned that Wike’s leadership style and self-centered politics could pose a danger to the APC and its progress.

Wike’s Unsuitability for Ministerial Role

Eze emphasized that Wike’s inclusion as a minister would be a grave political mistake on President Tinubu’s part.

He argued that Wike lacked the necessary credentials and character required for holding public office in contemporary Nigeria.

During his eight-year tenure as Governor of Rivers State, Wike failed to attract foreign investment and neglected essential areas of development, focusing mainly on building overhead bridges for popularity.

Eze pointed out that the Mother and Child Hospital and the Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Treatment Center in Rivers State were not functioning effectively, despite significant investments.

Additionally, Wike had faced allegations of corruption during his time as the Education Minister under the Jonathan administration, with an ongoing case involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Concerns and Consequences

The inclusion of Wike as a minister raised concerns within the APC, as it could be perceived as President Tinubu’s involvement in the party’s decimation in Rivers State over the past eight years.

Wike allegedly deployed state resources and manipulated the judiciary to stifle the APC in the state.

Eze warned that appointing Wike would not only insult APC members but also undermine the efforts of loyal party supporters who had struggled to sustain the party in Rivers State.

Conclusion

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze cautioned against the inclusion of Nyesom Wike in President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominee list, citing the former Governor’s questionable leadership style and alleged corrupt practices.

The decision to appoint Wike as a minister could have significant implications for the APC and the administration’s reputation.

Eze urged President Tinubu to consider Wike’s controversial record and its potential consequences before finalizing the ministerial appointments.
