GCIS Director-General Phumla Williams says Government is doing everything it can to address the country’s problem of load shedding

According to Phumla Williams, director-general of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS), the government is making every effort to address the issue of load shedding in the nation.

Williams noted that Eskom is currently experiencing an energy crisis, which won’t be fixed quickly, and that solutions won’t be found right away.

The shortage of engineering and technical skills is one of the difficulties facing Eskom, the Department of Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan noted during the 2022/2023 Budget Vote, and Solidarity has replied.

In their answer, Solidarity promised to help with this difficulty by providing a list of names of qualified and experienced technical South Africans.

“I must stress that the request for South Africans with the necessary competence to step forward is not a recent one, and it is surely not limited to Solidarity.

“The government is working hard to find solutions to the many problems the nation is now experiencing, particularly the Eskom catastrophe.

We ask South Africans to maintain their composure since all of the problems facing our nation are being dealt with urgently, she said.

Williams said that Minister Gordhan is not involved in the hiring or human resources processes in an interview.

“Eskom is performing this function, and all procedures will be followed in accordance with the law.

When it comes to the expert deployment, Eskom is aware of the procedures to follow, the speaker claimed.

The Director-General clarified that anyone can apply to assist Eskom or any other sector if they are a skilled South African with the necessary skills and knowledge.

Every South African has a role to play, and those who are skilled should help improve the nation, according to her.

It’s not a novel idea to consult retired professionals or others outside of the government.

Indeed, it was recently carried out when retired nurses were enlisted to help during the COVID-19 outbreak, according to Williams.

“Every South African can contribute to the greatness of South Africa.

To confront the issues our nation faces, each of us must do our part and contribute our knowledge and abilities.

We do more and don’t leave anyone behind when we work together, she remarked.

President Cyril Ramaphosa stated yesterday at the Black Industrialist and Exporters Conference hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre that relevant ministries and organisations are working on an integrated set of measures to supply more electricity to the grid as soon as practicable.

President Ramaphosa stated that the government is currently consulting with social partners on these measures and will soon be ready to announce a package of measures that offers an effective response to our energy situation.
