A videotape of Fikile Mbalula’s lecture on South Africa’s energy situation was abruptly cut off by Eskom and load shedding, leaving social media users laughing with amusement!
The ANC Secretary-General spoke about the party’s “emergency energy dialogue” at the University of Johannesburg.
In a video that went viral on Twitter on Friday, January 27th, Fikile Mbalula is shown informing the public of the ANC’s plans to mobilize action against the energy crisis and Eskom’s electricity price hikes.
Fikile’s speech was a response to a march to Luthuli House sponsored by the opposition party, the DA, in which members handed over a memorandum detailing their grievances earlier this week.
In the clip, Fikile states, “We vigorously pursue ideas.” He added, in reference to the march, “It was not always a pleasant discussion because they took to the streets.”
Suddenly, due to load shedding, the lights at the arena go out, leaving Bra Fiks in the dark.
A SABC anchor then cuts the clip short and states, “That’s load shedding. Given that it is a discussion about the energy problem, it is somewhat humorous.

Given the conversation, Twitter users were both upset and amused by the timing of Eskom and load shedding.
