As Newsom, a Democrat, was closing schools, businesses, and churches throughout California due to the spread of the coronavirus, his counterpart in Florida, Ron DeSantis, was trying his best to keep the state open for business.

Newsom issued a statewide shelter-in-place directive, which remained in effect until January 2021. It led to the imposition of capacity limitations on companies, including stores and restaurants.

Fox News reports that despite having a property in Northern California, the Siebels spent $3.3 million for a new residence in Naples, Florida, on the west coast of the state.

In June of 2020, the Siebels, whose daughter Jennifer had been married to Newsom for fourteen years, registered to vote in Florida.

Newsom had just enacted a statewide shelter-in-place order, which would not be repealed until January 2021, when the couple purchased their house.

In the end, business capacity limitations and other restrictions would remain in effect until June 2021.

It is believed that 40,000 California firms failed as a result of the rulings, the largest number of any state in the country.

In contrast, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, has pledged to abolish all limitations and lockdown regulations by September 2020.

Fox reports that Kenneth Siebel is a registered Republican and that the Siebel family trust contributed $5,000 to the Friends of Ron DeSantis political action group in 2022.

Additionally, Siebel contributed $2,000 to Republican Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Tom Cotton of Arkansas.

It is believed that both Newsom and DeSantis might run for president in the 2024 election.

Newsom might compete for the Democratic presidential nomination if Joe Biden decides not to seek re-election.

DeSantis has accused Newsom of treating Californians like ‘peasants’ and taunted him by claiming to have spotted “a lot” of California license plates in Florida.

Newsom has publicly criticized the policies of DeSantis.

Newsom has been publicly critical of DeSantis’ policies and has even launched a television advertisement in Florida urging residents to come to California, reminding them that their ‘freedom is under threat’ and that California is a location ‘where we still believe in freedom.’

DeSantis, meanwhile, is considered a Republican presidential candidate for 2024.

DeSantis has accused Newsom of treating Californians like ‘peasants’ and taunted him by claiming to have spotted “a lot” of California license plates in Florida.
