Gabby Agbonlahor believes that Graham Potter should be fired for his post-match comments after Chelsea’s 1-0 loss to Southampton.
On Saturday, the Blues’ manager was criticized for using rotation as an excuse for losing at home to the league’s last-place team (February 18). James Ward-17th Prowse’s Premier League free-kick enabled the Saints, who were without a manager, to take all three points from Chelsea.
Potter stated that it was “tough” to contend with the alterations he had to make to his team against a “well-prepared” opponent, which talkSPORT analyst Agbonlahor disagreed with. He asserted: “Potter should be fired for his post-match comments.
“What is he discussing? The opposing side is in turmoil; they lack a management and are unable to string consecutive victories together.
“And you’re whining that you’ve had to start Joao Felix and bring Mykhailo Mudryk off the bench. Are you joking me?”
Jamie O’Hare, co-host of Agbonlahor, added: “Is he teasing me by saying “it is what it is” and “we’ve had to make some adjustments”? Have you seen Chelsea’s lineup for today? That is an incredible team.
“Unbelievable. And what do you know? If this team was managed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United, there would be rioting right now. Graham Potter is escaping punishment for murder.”
Potter had previously stated to talkSPORT: “Because of the Champions League and our current scenario – players returning from injury – we were forced to make some alterations to our lineup today.
Against a squad that is well-prepared, it can be challenging to make such adjustments.
Three days after losing 1-0 on the road against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday, Potter made six changes to Chelsea’s starting lineup. The Blues are tenth in the Premier League after one victory and three draws in their past five league matches.
