Shocking footage has surfaced online showing a food outlet worker using a blowtorch to prepare raw chicken in an alleyway behind a shop in Middlesbrough. The video clips, shared on social media and seen by MailOnline, depict a man using the cooking method to grill the chickens, which are being kept in a trolley near a large bin.
A piece of cardboard has been placed at the bottom of the trolley, apparently to catch liquid from the raw meat.
The person filming the clips can be heard shouting, “f***ing hell, I’m not eating that!” as he walks by the man, who is using a blowtorch connected to a propane gas tank. In a second clip, pieces of chicken can be seen in a shopping trolley nearby.
Middlesbrough Council has been informed of the incident, and environmental health experts are believed to be looking into the videos. A council spokesperson stated, “We are aware of the video circulating online and are looking into the matter.
As a matter of course, we expect all food processes to be carried out in a safe and hygienic manner.”
Social media users have commented on the footage, with some expressing their disgust and questioning the trustworthiness of takeaways. Others suggested that the blowtorch was being used to remove feathers from the chicken, as plucking by hand only removes the larger feathers, leaving smaller ones behind.
