Extinction Rebellion protestors throw pink paint over the outside of an office in London

Extinction Rebellion protesters threw pink paint over the headquarters of UK Finance, an industry group that represents more than 300 firms in the banking industry.

The activists, who waved “End Corruption” banners, targeted the building in Angel Court, near Bank, to draw attention to how Britain’s financial system prioritizes profit over people and the planet.

The demonstrators also plastered a large sticker reading “corrupt” on the window of the building. Six people were arrested in connection with the protest.

Fiona Guillespie, an activist whom the group described as a concerned mother, criticized the banking industry and accused them of being morally bankrupt and self-serving agents who will stop at nothing in their quest for more power at any cost.

The protest is the latest in a series of actions taken by Extinction Rebellion to highlight the urgent need to address the climate crisis. The group has previously disrupted traffic in major cities, staged sit-ins at government buildings, and organized mass protests.

They have also called for the government to take immediate action to reduce carbon emissions and transition to a more sustainable economy.

The group’s tactics have been criticized by some, who argue that their actions cause disruption and inconvenience to ordinary people. However, Extinction Rebellion argues that their protests are necessary to draw attention to the urgent need to address the climate crisis and to pressure governments and corporations to take action.

They argue that the cost of inaction is far greater than the cost of disruption caused by their protests.
