Explosion in Jersey St. Helier apartments claims one life and injures up to a dozen

As a result of an explosion that destroyed many apartments in Jersey, one person has killed and up to twelve people are missing.

Just before 4:00 a.m., St. Helier’s emergency services were dispatched to Haut du Mont in response to reports of a major event.

As two ‘walking wounded’ were brought to the hospital, the street was observed littered with debris and billowing with smoke.

Following this morning’s explosion at Haut du Mont, Pier Road, a number of residents are still missing, according to a police statement.

“Emergency personnel are at the scene and have begun a search of the site’s surface.”

Family Liaison Officers are currently contacting relatives.

The fire has been contained, according to the police, but emergency services are still “carrying out considerable work” at the location, which has been cordoned off, and residents have been warned to avoid the area.

This is an evolving narrative. More to come
