Ex-NRL starSam Burgess is arrested after being pulled over and failing a drug test

Sam Burgess, a former NRL star, was detained after reportedly failing a random drug test.

Thursday morning, the 34-year-old former South Sydney Rabbitohs premiership player was pulled over in Kingsford for a random test and allegedly returned a positive result.

He was returned to the Maboura Police Station for additional testing.

According to Seven News, it is understood that investigators are awaiting the results before laying charges.

Burgess was not permitted to drive because his license is now suspended.

In February of last year, he pled guilty to driving with cocaine in his system after being nabbed behind the wheel of an unregistered vehicle by highway patrol.

He was fined, placed on a good behavior bond, and forced to participate in a program for traffic offenders. No convictions were documented.

In February, Burgess is scheduled to appear in court over this latest incident.
