Shocking Sexual Assault Incident in Southeast London
A devastating incident occurred in a southeast London park, which authorities are calling “truly horrific”.
A woman in her 20s reported being sexually assaulted, highlighting a distressing issue of public safety.
Event Recap: Frightening Encounter Leads to Tragic Event
On the morning of May 26, the victim was seated on a bench in Burgess Park between 9.30 and 10.15am.
She was approached by a man who began to ask her personal questions and made inappropriate sexual remarks.
Disturbed by his behaviour, the woman decided to leave the area and took refuge in the nearby Cobourg nature reserve.
Tragically, the man pursued her into the reserve, threatening her with a supposed knife, and proceeded to sexually assault her.
Suspect Description: Details about the Assailant
The suspect is described as a black man in his late 20s to early 30s, bearing a scar beneath his left eye, and having a closely trimmed beard.
He is of a larger build with dark eyes and thick eyebrows, and was reported to speak with a London accent.
The man was dressed in a black durag type hat and black tracksuit bottoms at the time of the attack.
Police Statement and Call for Information
Detective constable Timea Fazekas, who is leading the probe, said: “This was a truly horrific incident for the victim and she is being fully supported by officers specially trained to investigate sexual offences.
“Despite this undoubtedly terrifying ordeal, the victim is able to recall significant details about the attacker.”
Fazekas has urged the public to consider the suspect’s description and report any information that might help identify him.
