Emmy winners include ‘Succession,’ ‘Ted Lasso,’ and ‘The White Lotus’

This year’s Prime Time Emmy Awards were dominated by “Succession,” “Ted Lasso,” and “The White Lotus.”

“Succession” was voted Outstanding Drama Series, edging out “Better Call Saul,” “Euphoria,” “Ozark,” “Severance,” “Squid Game,” “Stranger Things,” and “Yellowjackets.” The ceremony took place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Monday.

When accepting the prize, showrunner Jesse Armstrong made the only reference to the recent death of Queen Elizabeth and the coronation of her son Charles as King.

He stated, “It’s a significant week for successions, and it appears that our victory involved a bit more voting than King Charles’.”

After actor Brian Cox, who portrays patriarch Logan Roy, ordered Armstrong to “keep it royalist,” the writer continued, “I’m not suggesting we’re more legitimate in our position than he is. We’ll leave that to other people. But we are extremely thankful to have this. It is a great honor.”

Armstrong also won Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, while Matthew Macfayden received Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama.

Jason Sudeikis returned to the stage to accept the Outstanding Comedy Series award for “Ted Lasso” after receiving the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series award earlier in the evening.

“Thank you so much to everyone who watches the show,” he remarked. Thank you to everyone who voted for the program. Thank you to everyone who contributes to the show.

“This is only an eighth of them, including everyone in the Warner Bros., Apple, and Doozer offices who answers the phone, everyone in production, and our Covid team.

Season 2 was enormous, and we didn’t have a single shutdown thanks to the efforts of everyone in post-production who helped us construct these incredible soccer stadiums around us.

“The plot revolves around good and evil. It concerns truth and falsehoods. This podcast is on all of those topics, but it focuses primarily on our reaction to them, and your response to our show has been overwhelming. Again, thank you so much.”

The Apple TV+ series, which also won for directing and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Brett Goldstein, triumphed against “Hacks,” “Abbott Elementary,” “Barry,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” “Only Murders in the Building,” and “What We Do in the Shadows.”

Best Limited or Anthology Series was awarded to “The White Lotus” over “Dopesick,” “The Dropout,” “Inventing Anna,” and “Pam and Tommy.”

Mike White, who had previously won Oscars for both writing and directing the series, took the stage and thanked the network that delivered the program to viewers.

He stated, “I neglected to thank HBO in my previous addresses.”

It took the common vision and unflinching trust of Casey Bloys, Francesca Orsi, and Nora Skinner at HBO to make this show a reality, said executive producer David Bernad.

“To our extraordinary cast and crew, thank you for showing up every day — in the midst of global turmoil and away from your loved ones — and pouring your heart and soul into the performance.

“We came together as a community in an effort to create something unique, and because of our combined efforts, we are standing here today.
