Elon Musk reports that approximately 100 Starlinks are currently operational in Iran

Elon Musk, the chief executive officer of SpaceX, announced on Monday that the company is close to having 100 active Star links, the company’s satellite internet service, in Iran, three months after he tweeted that he would activate the service there in the midst of unrest in the Islamic country.

Musk tweeted on Monday, “approaching 100 Starlinks active in Iran.”

The billionaire stated in September that he will activate Starlink in Iran as part of a U.S.-backed initiative “to promote internet freedom and the free flow of information” to Iranians.

The satellite-based broadband service could assist Iranians in circumventing government prohibitions on accessing the internet and certain social media platforms in the midst of unrest in the country.

The Islamic Republic has been engaged in protests since the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in police custody in September. Amini was arrested by the morality police for wearing “inappropriate clothes.”
