Eight more charged of inciting 2021 July riots in KwaZulu-Natal

Eight more accused have been detained for encouraging the 2021 July riots that killed over 300 people and devastated KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

Godfrey Lebeya, Hawks head, verified the news Tuesday.

43 suspects have been arrested.

Lebeya said the eight would be in court shortly.

“The DPCI never ceased investigating,” he claimed. Multidisciplinary teams investigated.

DPCI and NPA believe the investigation is ready, thus the Hawks are landing.
The Durban Magistrate’s Court remanded 35 accused’ case last week.

KZN Hawks had arrested 25 in two weeks.
22 suspects appeared in Durban Magistrate’s Court on 12 August on allegations of conspiracy to conduct public violence, incitement to commit public violence, and incitement to commit arson linked to looting and public violence in KwaZulu-Natal in July 2021.
