Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser on Media Projects to the Governor of Edo State, has refuted the remarks made by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo State, Col. David Imuse, describing them as laughable and incredibly ridiculous.
Imuse had asserted that Nigeria or Edo State did not exist 75 years ago, a statement that Osagie argues belittles Imuse’s military rank.
Opposition Should Not Lead to Cynicism
Osagie, in a statement, highlights that being in the opposition does not warrant resorting to cynicism.
He urges Col. Imuse and his allies to cease their attempts at undermining the efforts of the Governor Godwin Obaseki-led state government in bringing positive changes and economic prosperity to Edo State.
Challenging Imuse’s Historical Ignorance
Osagie criticizes Imuse’s claim that Nigeria and Edo State did not exist 75 years ago, suggesting that such a statement raises doubts about the authenticity of Imuse’s military rank.
He highlights the long-established history of pre-independence and post-independence Nigeria, emphasizing that even elementary school pupils are aware of the country’s existence during that time.
Historical Significance of Benin Port
Osagie draws attention to the historical significance of the Benin Kingdom and its trade with the Portuguese in the 14th century, which utilized the location of the Benin Port.
He asserts that Imuse’s argument seems to disregard the well-documented transactions and the existence of the Benin Kingdom.
Opposition Politics vs. Cynicism
Osagie clarifies that engaging in opposition politics does not automatically equate to cynicism.
He states that the success achieved by the Obaseki administration in realizing the Benin Port vision should be acknowledged, even by Imuse, whose current self-serving politics appears to cloud his judgment.
Lack of Understanding and Constructive Input
Osagie points out that the bitter response from the Edo APC and its leaders upon hearing the news about the progress of the Benin Port Project indicates their aggressive efforts to hinder the development of Edo State.
He characterizes Imuse’s tirade and baseless attacks on the governor and the project as indicative of his lack of understanding of governance and the complexities involved in large-scale infrastructure projects.
Osagie asserts that such individuals offer no constructive input to the development and growth of Edo State and should be disregarded by the people.
