Edmilson Dove at Kaizer Chiefs

Johannesburg – Edmilson Dove, one of the newest additions to the Kaizer Chiefs, is on cloud nine following his dream move to the Soweto giants, a club he fell in love with as a child.

The national team of Mozambique was selected by coach Arthur Zwane, who has been tasked with restoring the club to its previous glory.

Dove, who had previously played for Cape Town City, met the requirements established by the club as they sought to fill the gap at left centre back and provide support for a left defender position that right-footed Reeve Frosler had occupied for the bulk of last season.

Edmilson persuaded Zwane of his ability during a preseason trial, earning him a transfer back to South Africa and a spot in the Amakhosi squad for the 2022/2023 season.

He told the club’s media department, “I was with the national team when I received a phone saying I should come here for a few days. I responded ‘why not?’ because, realistically, this is the team I have supported since I was a child.”

“I’m delighted I met some friends when playing for Cape Town City, such as Yeye (Reneilwe Letsholonyane) and Shabba (Siphiwe Tshabalala), so it was an honor for me to come here and wear the gold and black, even if it was only for training.

“Fortunately, everything went smoothly, and it was a proud occasion for me and my family to represent such a prestigious club as Kaizer Chiefs.”

Recently, the 28-year-old utility player played his first two games for the Glamour Boys and was brilliant in both.

He emphasized his willingness to assist the club in reclaiming what he believes to be its due position at the elite of South African soccer. Amakhosi are positioned 12th in the DStv league standings after the first quarter.

This club deserves to be at the top, and that is what we’re striving for, he said.

“When we go to games, we want to win not only for ourselves but also for our family and every Kaizer Chiefs fan that attends the stadium or follows the game at home.”

Amakhosi will host AmaZulu at the FNB stadium on Sunday for an MTN8 semi-final match (3pm).
