Eastenders and The Bill child star, 34, gets sentenced for hitting his mum

A former actor was sentenced to almost four years in prison for repeatedly punching his elderly mother while she was in bed.

According to the IMDB website, Joshua Malin, 34, made his television acting debut in The Bill in 2006 and in Eastenders in 2003 while still a teenager.

On March 1, Malim attacked 71-year-old Diana Malin at her Wood Green, north London, home while a restraining order was in place to keep her safe after prior assaults.

Mrs. Malin cried in the courtroom’s well yesterday at the Old Bailey as her only child was given a three-year, eight-month sentence and barred from contacting her for ten years.

Malin has already been found guilty of five offenses against his mother, including violence in 2018 and 2020, assault causing real bodily injury in 2010, and criminal damage in 2013.

Additionally, he has twice violated a restraining order by trying to visit her.

In June 2020, Malin hit her twice in the head before she decided enough was enough and called 911.

On August 13, 2017, he had also seized her hand and repeatedly pushed her thumb back while she was operating a vehicle.

Malin’s mother said in a victim impact statement that was read aloud in court: “The attack made me feel vulnerable, and it made me worry about who is going to come on my doorway.”

‘Before he was caught, I used to be terrified to enter my front door because I thought it may be him.

I feel terrified, lonely, and unhappy every day; it has affected my mental health, therefore I’m sorry for both of us.

According to the online movie and television database IMDB, Malin acted as “Jimi da Costa” in The Bill in 2006 and as “Camcorder Lad” in two episodes of Eastenders in 2003.

Malin also had a part in the 2000 television adaptation of Guy Ritchie’s 1998 film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Lock, Stock.

The court heard that he most recently had a server position at a hotel in Chelsea.

Martin Lewis, the prosecutor, stated: “On March 1 of this year, Mrs. Malin received a tap at her door.

She let her son inside her house, and at first he behaved himself.

She was in a little discomfort from her long-standing spondylitis ailment as she lay on her bed. Her kid began to accuse her of always staying in bed.

The defendant didn’t get along with Diana’s ex-partner, who was mentioned throughout the chat. But he discovered that they had resumed talking.

They then spoke about a different buddy that the defendant didn’t like. The accuser erupted in a fit of rage at her meeting a new buddy.

He began striking her repeatedly in the face seemingly out of nowhere. If you don’t stop seeing them, I’ll murder you, he said.

It was an ongoing assault.

Mrs. Malin sustained bruises to her knee and eye socket.

Malin and his mother had problems, according to Charles Burton, Malin’s attorney, that dated back to their early years.

“He has a strong love and affection for his mother, which regrettably has been impacted by these really deep-rooted difficulties,” he added.

He thinks he has mastered the art of letting go of these problems.

“He has led in his fields of performing, movies, and the creative industry, and he has had a full and productive life.”

There are other forces—triggers—that lead to his behavior, thus this wasn’t justifiable aggression towards his mother.

It seems incomprehensible that he would go to see mum with the intention of hurting her. Nothing would make him happier than to reunite with his mother, whom he adores, at some time.

Your elderly mother was the victim, but you have used violence against her before, and you have also violated a restraining order intended to keep her safe, the judge warned Malin.

“You visited her house when she was in bed, and when you entered her room, you repeatedly hit her.”

She was 71 years old and had severe health problems that kept her in bed for extended periods of time.

“I struggle to have a great degree of trust that things will change,” the speaker said.

He remarked, “I hope you understand why a hefty jail term was necessary,” speaking to a heartbroken Mrs. Malin.

“I’m aware it will cause you, as his mother, to have contradictory feelings.

“I have issued a restraining order today, which will remain in effect for 10 years and ensure that you are not in danger of being harmed again.”

Malin, of Wood Green, confessed to both violating a restraining order and assault causing real bodily injury.

He received a jail term of three years and eight months.

A 10-year restraining order was also issued on Malin, barring him from making any direct or indirect contact with his mother, visiting her home, or going inside the Peabody Estate where she resides.
