On Sunday night in New Orleans, five people, including a small child, were shot during the Mardi Gras Bacchus procession.
According to New Orleans PD Chief Deputy Hans Ganthier, one suspect was apprehended on the spot. The shooter’s motivation is yet unknown.
About 9:30 p.m., a gunshot along the procession route took place at Terpsichore and Saint. Charles streets.
There was a brief interruption in the march.
According to authorities, five men and two women were hurt in the incident. A little child was among the victims. All five patients were taken urgently to a nearby hospital, where four are in stable condition and one is in serious condition.
Although noting that the little child was stable, Ganthier did not identify which victim was in serious condition.
An annual Mardi Gras ritual, the Krewe of Bacchus procession, was momentarily put on hold while police cordoned off the area and searched for any evidence.
Once the guy was apprehended, according to the police, two firearms were found on the scene.
The person who, in Ganthier’s opinion, is accountable for this was immediately captured.
He continued that he wasn’t sure whether there were any more shooters, but he urged anybody who saw the incident and may have information to contact Crimestoppers at (800) 822-1111.
Several parade attendees said WWL-TV they observed people falling over one other as they attempted to leave and heard at least a dozen rounds fired.
Ganthier said, “This is definitely not what we wanted to see.” We really hoped that this Mardi Gras would be secure.
Images and videos taken along the parade route show trash on the roadway and items that spectators left behind as they fled quickly after hearing gunfire.
Later that evening, the march continued, although fewer people were there.
