“Twinverclyde” Gears Up for Second Largest Influx of Twins in Primary School
An upcoming school term in Inverclyde, Scotland, is set to witness an extraordinary event as the region prepares to welcome the second largest group of twins on record starting primary school.
With 17 sets of twins slated to enter primary one on August 18, local schools are bracing for this notable influx.
The moniker “Twinverclyde” has colloquially emerged, acknowledging the region’s reputation for having a notably high concentration of twins.
The previous instance of such an occurrence was in 2015, when 19 sets of twins embarked on their educational journey in the region.
Gathering for a Dress Rehearsal
In preparation for their first day, most of the incoming 2023 class gathered at St Patrick’s Primary School in Greenock for a dress rehearsal.
This event marks a significant step as these young learners take the first stride towards formal education.
Among the 17 sets of twins, 15 were present, showcasing the eagerness and excitement that envelop this milestone moment.

St Patrick’s Primary School and Ardgowan Primary School stand out as the institutions receiving the highest number of twin pairs, with three sets each joining their respective primary one classes.
The cumulative count of twins in Inverclyde from 2013 to date is an impressive 147 sets, averaging at approximately 13 sets per year.
This noteworthy concentration of twins has made Inverclyde synonymous with the playful yet apt moniker, “Twinverclyde.”
