First division and amateur clubs are ecstatic to have been given the opportunity to compete against the country’s premier clubs in the Nedbank Cup.

The draw was place in Sandton, Johannesburg on Thursday, and the matchups suggest that this year’s competition will be intriguing.

Khensani Nobanda, group executive of marketing and communications at Nedbank, exclaimed, “We are thrilled to launch the 16th edition of the Nedbank Cup, a highlight of the South African knockout football calendar.”

“The 2023 season provides amateur teams with another another opportunity to fight with the greatest local football teams and demonstrate their potential. Our mission at Nedbank is to continue fostering the growth and development of local football.

“To demonstrate our dedication, in partnership with the 2023 Nedbank Cup champions, we will establish our eighth multi-purpose sport court in a school and community where the champion club is based. The objective of the sport court is to promote skill development and increase participation in football and other sports.

“We would like to thank our long-standing partner, the Premier Soccer League, for their support and efforts in opening the 2023 season successfully. Best wishes to all participating teams this year.”

The excellent cooperation between Nedbank and the Premier Soccer League has enabled the league to be named South Africa’s premier knockout football tournament.

“The Nedbank Cup is renowned for providing a platform for raw talent to flourish, and as the PSL, we are excited to see what this season has in store,” said PSL interim CEO Mato Madlala.

“We would like to thank Nedbank for their ongoing support, which has allowed us to expand and improve the beautiful game over the past sixteen years. The eight clubs from the Safa [South African Football Association] divisions will have a fantastic opportunity to play against the 24 clubs from the professional ranks.
