Commissioner for Education says Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration will improve on its achievements in the education sector

The Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration has committed to building on its achievements in the sector of education, according to the Honorable Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo.

Mrs. Adefisayo made the statement at the Education Stakeholders’ Forum held at Government Model College, Owutu, Ikorodu, to drive ongoing excellence and credible collaboration with essential stakeholders in order to move the education sector forward.

She stated that the event was organised by the Education Ministry as one of the steps aimed to improve education in the state by exploring all possibilities for development, in concert with the Education & Technology Pillar of the Lagos State Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda.

The meeting was intended to evaluate government reforms in education, identify the successes so far recorded, and seek out new collaborative approaches with stakeholders, Mrs. Adefisayo said, expressing the conviction that with hard work as a team, the District and, by extension, the State Government, can achieve more success in the education sector.

The Commissioner advised the Alumni Association members present at the ceremony to organise themselves in a way that would exhibit confidence and transparency in all of their engagements in response to the issue of self-help projects across schools in Lagos State.

She said that the State Government had instructed school administrators to always refer alumni associations to the ministry because the government had previously had multiple unfavourable comments about some Old Students’ Associations’ lacking transparency and poor leadership.

The administration of Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, according to Adefisayo, is steadfast in its commitment to enacting changes that will have a profound impact on the education system, despite the immense obstacles that still confront it.

Mrs. Anike Adekanye, Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District II, stated that while the District has excelled in several academic and non-academic areas, there is still a need to maintain and improve on the District’s good records.

Noting that school performance in Ikorodu Zone under the District improved greatly in the last academic session, the TG/PS appealed for all hands to be on deck for greater exploits in the years ahead in order to restore the glory of education in Ikorodu Zone and Education District II.

Adekanye pledged that the District would continue to take advantage of every chance for the education system in the State to develop by getting feedback from parents, local authorities, traditional leaders, and all other important stakeholders.

In a separate speech, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was praised for his administration’s achievements in the education sector and other areas by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabir Sotobi, who called them extraordinary.

Oba Sotobi added that he had collated and provided additional areas of need in the education sector to the State Government through the Commissioner for Education, while acknowledging the increased presence of the Government’s activities in Ikorodu and its surroundings.

As a way of working with the government to improve the education sector because no one can address the difficulties in the sector alone, other forum speakers recommended the State Government to eliminate the bureaucracies frequently experienced by Old Students Associations willing to give back to their Alma Mater.

The Paramount Rulers of Igbogbo and Imota, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, the Publisher of the Oriwu Sun Community Newspaper, Chief Monzor Olowosago, Mr. Rotimi Erogbogbo, the Chairman of the Ikorodu Development Association, and NUT leadership are just a few of the dignitaries who attended the forum.
