Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Begins Second Term Inauguration at Tafawa Balewa Square

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has arrived at the Tafawa Balewa Square for his second term inauguration.

The ceremony commenced with an inauguration procession, during which the governor was taken around in an open-air motorcade while supporters chanted ‘Sellable.’

Election Recap:

Governor Sanwo-Olu emerged victorious in the election, garnering 762,134 votes.

He defeated his closest rival, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party, who secured 312,329 votes.

Jide Adediran of the PDP came in third with 62,449 votes.

Additional candidates, Funmilayo Kupoluyi of APM and Abiola Adeyemi of APP, received 884 and 259 votes respectively, as per the results announced by INEC.

Petitions and Challenges:

Despite his electoral success, Governor Sanwo-Olu faced legal challenges from the PDP and other political parties.

They argued in separate petitions that both Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, were unqualified to contest the election and that INEC had not complied with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution.
