Children play on frozen pond aday after three boys fell through it

One day after four young boys plunged into frozen water, leaving three dead and one gravely injured, a group of teens were seen playing on a frozen pond.

On Monday afternoon, nine kids were seen having fun on the frozen Brinkburn Pond Nature Reserve in Darington, which led one concerned local to issue a caution.

The person who shared the image online and asked to remain anonymous urged parents to “just keep your kids safe.”

As Britain continues to face a cold spell, local authorities have issued stern warnings to parents about the risks of frozen waters. Temperatures have dropped precipitously over the past week, and there are currently yellow weather warnings for snow and ice in several parts of the UK, where lows of -5C are predicted.

Several members of the neighborhood commented on the photograph on social media, with some describing it as “frightening” and others as “hazardous.”

This week’s first alert about winter water safety came from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service and was afterwards shared by Darlington Council.

“Many ponds and other bodies of water are at risk of freezing,” it warned, adding that temperatures are expected to stay extremely low. Despite the fact that they appear to be sturdy, they might actually be exceedingly unsafe and unlikely to support your weight.

We are pleading with parents to kindly talk to their kids about the possible repercussions if someone falls into the icy water. We also want to remind folks to keep their pets on leashes when they are close to water.

Yesterday, the Royal Life Saving Society UK posted something that Cleveland Police also shared. It read, “This weekend we saw an extraordinarily cold spell, resulting in the freezing over of many bodies of water.”

Our website is filled with comprehensive safety information that will keep you safe over the winter.

The most important things to keep in mind are: 1. Never go onto the ice to play, retrieve something, or bring a pet. 2. If you need to rescue someone, contact 999 and ask for the Fire and Rescue Service instead than going onto the ice.

Similar to this, after school on Monday, 20 to 30 kids were reportedly seen playing on the ice at Hammonds Pond, according to Carlisle Police.

Officers urged people to avoid the ice, saying that it was fortunate that none of them went through into the lake.

This is incredibly risky and might be fatal.

The police department issued a tweet advising parents to “make sure your children are safe and aware of the risks.”

Last night, children were spotted in Bedfordshire playing on frozen lakes, which prompted the local fire and rescue service to ‘ask members of the public and children not to wander into frozen water.

Three schoolboys, ages eight, ten, and eleven, tragically died on Sunday after falling through the ice on a frozen lake in Kingshurst, Solihull, prompting the grave water safety warnings.

Six-year-old boy number four is still fighting for his life in the hospital. Temperatures in the vicinity were reportedly around 1C at the time of the occurrence.

On the ice, where the kids were having fun, something gave way.

One got their legs stuck in the ice, and then… his pals attempted to go and save him, but they all fell in, said Tommy Barnet, 10, who observed the incident and spoke to Sky News.

When the tragedy occurred on Sunday, 13-year-old Oliwia Szewc was meeting a friend and heroically tried to save the boys.

She remembered frantically removing tree branches to pass to the boys so they might assist in getting them out, but they were all too short.

ITV News quoted Oliwia as saying, “I was simply doing my best to think of other ways to at least help them or do anything for them to float on the surface of the water so they wouldn’t drown.”

She claimed to have known she would have to hold off until emergency services arrived before a man who she thought to be a relative of the boys dove into the river.

He jumped into the freezing lake and slashed up his legs, but Oliwia said, “He couldn’t really do anything because he was endangering his own life.”

The police stopped him, so he didn’t move forward.

The mother of one of the boys arrived, the youngster claimed, and was “in a panic,” while police officers broke up the ice while consoling her.

After dialing 999, the young girl gave West Midlands Police directions while describing the call as a “total panic” since she was “still in shock.”

When police and fire crews removed the four youngsters from the lake, they were all suffering from cardiac arrest. The three elder children were not able to be saved despite efforts.

Oliwia recalled that ambulance staff ‘were asking for jackets and coats to attempt to bring the boys, like, temperature back up’ when the youngsters were taken out.

“I gave my coat, my friend gave her jacket,” she continued. We were merely kind of hoping for the boys’ well-being. To save any one of them, I would have been willing to sacrifice anything.

Knowing that one of them is still in the hospital makes me feel a little better because I at least managed to assist someone. It was really horrible, and I had no idea what to do to help, despite my best efforts.

Numerous memorials for the three boys have been left at the area since the incident, including ones from the emergency services, the NHS, politicians, the neighborhood football team Marston Green FC, and friends of the kids.

One of the men addresses a particular youngster by name, saying, “To my friend Thomas.” I appreciate you being there for me when I needed you. I appreciate you lending me your jacket when I needed it.

Jude Bellingham, a 19-year-old World Cup star for England, also paid respects by posting a photo of a vigil held by distraught residents on Instagram with the caption, “Sending love and support to the families, RIP.” Nearby Dudley is where Bellingham was born.

It was also discovered that Jack Johnson, 10, was one of the kids who perished. His aunt said on Facebook that he ‘run and tried to save’ three other kids, among them a six-year-old, who were on the frozen lake when the ice cracked.

The identities of the remaining two victims have not yet been made public.

Last night, the grieving people of Solihull came together for a vigil to remember the lads.

Concerns over fatalities caused by the winter weather have increased as a result of the Met Office extending yellow warnings for snow and ice across the UK.

Around 9.25 p.m. on Monday, the Met Police discovered the body of a man in his 20s in the River Thames close to London Bridge.

The man was reportedly seen getting into the river earlier in the evening, and according to the investigators, “the circumstances of the death are not being viewed as suspicious.”

The man’s relatives have been informed by the police, but they have not yet publicly recognized him.

After thousands of Britons were left without power in the frigid conditions of last night, snow and ice advisories are still in effect for them today.

Up until Friday at noon, meteorologists had issued a yellow warning for snow and ice across northern Scotland and north-eastern England.

It happens at the same time as the Scottish Government on Tuesday declared a major incident in Shetland after thousands of houses lost power amid freezing conditions.

Although SSEN Distribution indicated that a complete restoration is only probable by the end of the week, they are trying to restore supply to around 2,800 homes.

According to Becky White, a spokesperson for the Met Office, locations covered by the most recent weather warnings could receive up to 10 centimetres of new snow on higher land.

We might have a few more centimeters of snowfall, according to Ms. White.

In the Highlands, “We could see about 1-4 cm at lower levels and 5-10 cm on higher areas.”

Eastern England is also under an ice warning till noon today.

A yellow ice warning has also been added by the national forecaster for Belfast and other northern regions of Northern Ireland from noon yesterday to 12 today.

Over the following three days, there will be a risk of ice across the nation, but especially tonight, she said.

A band of rain is approaching from the southwest, but it might convert into snow before it reaches the ground.
