Charly Boy Faces Backlash for Deleting Controversial Tweet, Faces Accusations of Hypocrisy
Renowned Nigerian activist and singer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, received criticism for deleting a tweet that addressed the unrest in France while drawing comparisons to Nigeria.
The tweet originally urged Nigerian youths to reject what he called the oppressive system and “criminal enterprise” under President Bola Tinubu.
After posting the tweet, Charly Boy faced backlash from some Nigerians for referring to the Bola Tinubu administration as a “criminal enterprise.”
Although he later deleted the tweet, he felt compelled to re-edit and repost it, this time without the controversial phrase.
However, despite his attempt to clarify his statement, some individuals accused Charly Boy of hypocrisy.
The re-edited post stated, “This isn’t Syria, Iraq, or Afghanistan.
This is France, where 9% of the population has brought down entire cities! Karma from Africa? I am waiting for the exceptional Nigerian youths to reject a system that has let them down.
Your destiny is in your hands.”
In a separate incident a few months ago, Charly Boy responded to a news report that accused Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu, of purchasing a property worth $10.8 million in London, UK, allegedly linked to fraudulent activities.
According to the report, a company owned by Tinubu’s son acquired a mansion in London worth $11 million in 2017.
The Nigerian government, under former President Muhammadu Buhari, attempted to seize the property as part of an investigation into a major corruption scandal.
Charly Boy reacted to the report on Twitter, stating that this scandal is just the beginning of the unprecedented corruption Nigerians can expect under Tinubu’s leadership.
Charly Boy shared screenshots of the allegations against Seyi Tinubu along with the words, “We haven’t seen anything yet.
If the INEC-select president succeeds on May 29th, we will witness Shege Banza,” implying that corruption would worsen under Tinubu’s presidency.
