Bucs Reserves face Soweto Derby as DDC begins

This coming weekend, the 2022/23 DStv Diski Challenge season will begin with the Orlando Pirates Reserves taking on the Kaizer Chiefs.

The news was made by the competition’s title sponsor on Wednesday morning, only days prior to the start of an exciting football festival that will feature some of the most intense local derbies.

On Sunday, at King Zwelithini Stadium, all eyes will be on the Soweto Derby between the Bucs Reserves and Amakhosi Reserves, which promises to be another fascinating matchup.

Each team will be aiming for the best possible start to the upcoming season, with the young Buccaneers eager to go all the way after narrowly missing out on the championship in the previous year, finishing third in the standings after being in contention for the championship until the penultimate weekend of play. Last time out, their opponent finished sixth.

Pirates will also be hoping to restore bragging rights in the fixture following a 3-0 Soweto Derby loss early in the 2021/22 season and a goalless draw between the two teams in their most recent meeting.

The weekend’s action will also see the return of spectators to match venues for the first time at this level after a lengthy hiatus; free tickets for the game may be acquired at the King Zwelithini Stadium beginning on Friday at 13:00.

The Soweto Derby will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday and will be shown live on SuperSport Variety 4.
