CONFRONTING CONTENT WARNING  Bryan Michael Grange pleaded guilty to a series of child abuse charges in 2021. Grange was sentenced to 34 years in prison, but is now appealing the verdict. Grange abused three children, including a newborn infant.

His attorney argued to the Court of Criminal Appeal that the sentence was obviously excessive.

A tradesman who was sentenced to 30 years in prison for sexually abusing an eight-week-old infant and two girls under the age of five is appealing his sentence in the state’s top court on the grounds that it is’manifestly excessive.’

Bryan Michael Grange was incarcerated in 2021 after the NSW District Court revealed the horrific harm he inflicted on three children between 2014 and 2018.

He pled guilty to a series of child sex offenses under both state and federal law, relating to his abuse of the girls and possession of abuse material.

Judge Kara Shead condemned Grange to 30 years in prison for child sexual abuse and an extra 4.5 years for possessing child abuse material, describing his crimes as “very appalling and evil.”

Grange has now filed an appeal against his sentence with the Court of Criminal Appeal, and on Monday he appeared before Justices Robert Beech-Jones, Geoffrey Bellew, and Desmond Fagan.

Grange was defended in court by attorney Sue Kluss, who argued that his sentence was plainly excessive under the circumstances.

Ms. Kluss stated that the finding of objective criminality beyond what was reasonable under the circumstances.

She informed the court that her client entered a guilty plea at the earliest opportunity and asserted that there was “substantial overlap” between the accusations of manufacturing child abuse material and sexual abuse.

Ms. Kluss stated, “These youngsters were not physically hurt, and it is highly speculative that they would suffer psychological injury given their ages.”

The final argument is that the severity of this sentence is excessive.

A prosecutor for the Crown opposed the appeal, stating that Grange’s breach of trust was serious because it occurred in his own house.

The convicted child molester (pictured) has appealed his sentence on the grounds that it was ‘clearly excessive under the circumstances.’

Krista Breckweg, representing the Commonwealth DPP, told the court that Grange’s admission of being sexually attracted to youngsters should be considered.

“Specifically sexual paedophilia,” Ms. Breckweg stated.

Given the gravity of the crime, the punishment imposed is commensurate with the offense’s gravity.

During Grange’s 2021 sentencing, the court was informed that one of his victims was an eight-week-old child he assaulted while the kid’s mother and Grange’s wife smoked cigarettes outside.

Later, he disclosed to a therapist, ‘I took Viagra that morning. It was a fairly messed-up moment. I have no justification for it.

As she described the infant’s rape, Judge Shead informed the court that “all right-minded members of the community would feel appalled and disturbed.”

Another victim was a youngster between the ages of one and two when she was abused by Grange when he was accompanying her in a public restroom. A third victim was between the ages of one and five when she was frequently abused by Grange over a period of years.

The court was informed that Grange recorded one of the girls and encouraged her to expose herself by saying, “You’re getting good at it.”

Police discovered that Grange had accumulated more than 30,000 photographs and films of child sexual abuse on seven different devices, with hundreds of his recordings and images deemed to be of the most heinous variety (stock image)

He created a number of videos depicting himself abusing the females and recording their genitalia from meticulously planned camera angles.

There are numerous horrific aspects of the abuse that cannot be published.

Grange amassed over 30,000 photographs and videos of child sexual abuse and stored them on seven devices.

Hundreds of his movies and photographs, including videos of youngsters being confined, pushed into bestiality, and subjected to horrible sexual practices, were deemed to be of the worst possible quality.

Grange signed up for a subscription website using his own name and credit card information and spent $7,156 on child abuse content.

The ruling on the appeal has been withheld.
