Brisbane man with three wives remembered in humorous obituary

A hilarious obituary described a father of six as “annoying” to his children and “loveable” to his three wives.

On Wednesday, the obituary for Stephen Ralph Morris, 75, appeared in Brisbane’s Courier Mail and was shared on social media.

The story included a picture of Mr. Morris enjoying a beer and characterised the deceased “mongrel” as a “larger than life” figure.

The message said, “Stephen Ralph Morris. April 23, 1947, September 10, 2022.”

‘Norm and Gwen’s challenging but loved kid. Big brother who is obnoxious but also guards Phillip and Helen. Stupid yet adoring husband of Valda, Joann, and Rosemary.

“Questionable but always funny parenting techniques to Steve and Sherry, Jodie and Terri, Clare and Liam Plus 7 grandchildren.”

The obituary continued by stating that he was a “partner in crime to Daryl – AKA Dismal Dizzy” and was referred to by several of his friends as a “mongrel.”

“Poet, storyteller, larger-than-life, and the life of the party!” It said, “Thanks for the memories, you crazy b*****d.”

“TTFN, we love you and miss you.”

At “Steve’s wish,” there would be no funeral but rather a “p***up” on September 17 at 2 PM at Stafford Tavern in north Brisbane.

The homage concluded, “I did it my way.”

“Spotted in Courier Mail funeral announcements today – wonderfully worded,” the social media post’s caption said.

Many people who prefer the notion of a party rather than a funeral responded to the obituary.

“Everyone have a celebration instead of a funeral,” I said. The Janis Joplin method,’ a critic noted.

“I’ve already made it clear to my family that I will not be having a funeral.” They seem strange to me. Another person said, “I’d tolerate a party, but that’s all.”

Funerals are terrible, said another.

Others that Mr. Morris did not know expressed a desire to attend the pub party.

Despite having never seen the man, one wrote, “If my weekend plans go through, my backup will be Stafford Tavern at 2pm wearing a colourful outfit.”

Another commenter said, “I think Stephen would appreciate of us all showing up!”

Someone else made fun of Mr. Morris’ partners showing up.

She said, “The three spouses will be there to compare notes.”
