Katich and Amla lead Mumbai Indians Cape Town

Cape Town – For the inaugural SA20 tournament, the Mumbai Indians Cape Town have recruited former Australian opener Simon Katich as head coach and Proteas legend Hashim Amla as batting coach.

Former New Zealand batsman James Pamment will serve as the team’s fielding coach, and former South African player and domestic coach Robin Peterson will serve as the team’s general manager.

“Being offered the post of head coach at MI Cape Town is an incredible honor. It is always special to form a new team, hone abilities, and establish a cohesive team culture. Katich stated, “I look forward to ensuring that MI Cape Town evolves into a team that capitalizes on local talent and upholds MI’s basic values.”

Amla, who is still playing for Surrey in the English County Championship and who surpassed 37,000 first-class runs this week, stated, “I’m ecstatic to accept this position with MI Cape Town. Huge gratitude to the owners, management, and my manager for making this transaction so efficiently.

“Based on their plans, it appears that it will be an incredible platform that will attract our local talent. With my expertise as a player and coach, I am eager to assist MI Cape Town players in reaching their full potential and in strengthening SA cricket.”

Prior to next Monday’s inaugural SA20 auction at the Cape Town Convention Centre, MI Cape Town have already signed Proteas international Kagiso Rabada, England internationals Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran, Afghanistan superstar Rashid Khan, and South African prodigy Dewald Brevis.
