On Friday night, January 27, a police officer assigned to the West Rand Infrastructure Unit allegedly opened fire on a group of bouncers working at a pub in Kagiso, Krugersdorp, after they stopped him from assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
According to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), the Sergeant ran into his ex-girlfriend at a pub in Kagiso on Friday night.
The police officer allegedly assaulted the woman after they engaged in an altercation.
“The bar’s bouncers intervened. The officer then continued to battle with the doormen.
Lizzy Suping, a spokesperson for the IPID, stated, “He exited the establishment, returned with a firearm, and began firing randomly at the bouncers.”
One of the injured security guards was transported to the hospital for treatment. He was pronounced deceased upon his arrival. Another security guard had a left knee injury.
According to reports, the officer departed the area following the shot. Later, he was discovered hiding in a hut three homes distant from his residence.
The police watchdog is conducting an investigation into the death of the doorman, and an autopsy will be performed on Monday.
The Directorate is also investigating a policewoman from Limpopo who is accused of committing a videotaped rape against her kid. She is anticipated to request bail on Monday.
