A serving police officer has been charged with attempting to murder a woman believed to be his ex-girlfriend at a Premier Inn in Manchester.

PC James Riley, a serving officer with the Lancashire Police, was arrested Thursday night following allegations of an alleged incident.

The 27-year-old spoke in the Manchester Magistrates’ Court to confirm his identity, age, and address in relation to the attempted murder of Ellie Moxham.

Riley wore a grey sweater and grey pants to the five-minute hearing. There was no bail application, and he was remanded in custody.

Officers were dispatched to the hotel on Brook Street in Manchester in response to a “complaint of concern for a woman’s welfare.”

Riley works for the south division of Lancashire Police, which covers Preston, South Ribble, Chorley, Ormskirk, and Skelmersdale. He is now suspended from duty.

James Riley, 27, a South division officer, has been charged with attempted murder.

He has been placed on administrative leave and the matter has been forwarded to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.

Following the alleged event, emergency services transported Miss Moxham to the hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

On December 19, Riley will appear at Manchester Crown Court for a pre-trial and preparation hearing.
