Book signing event turns ugly

A book signing event held by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis turned ugly when a group of Donald Trump supporters were ordered to leave by a security guard. The incident occurred at a Books-a-Million store in Leesburg, Florida, where the group was not allowed in, with a video of the incident showing the security guard telling them, “They told me to say anyone wearing Trump has to go right now.” The group booed at the order and called DeSantis out for not supporting free speech. The incident is the latest row between allies-turned-rivals as DeSantis is currently leading the latest Republican poll for a potential GOP presidential frontrunner.

Conservative Laura Loomer shared the video of the outraged Trump supporters frustrated by the security officer who told them they were not allowed in. As the group reiterated that DeSantis was not letting them demonstrate, they slammed him as being against freedom of speech. Following the incident, Loomer told The Daily Beast that the police showed up and threatened to cite and arrest them for trespassing if they didn’t leave because DeSantis did not want them inside. The Leesburg Police Department did not immediately respond to DailyMail.com’s request for comment.

The incident occurred as tensions rise between Trump and DeSantis, with the former president continuing to bash DeSantis regularly, accusing him of being a “RINO in disguise.” Despite the bashing from the former president, a poll among 1,000 Republicans shows that the preference for voters in the 2024 primary is increasingly for DeSantis to be the GOP nominee – even when put up against eight other candidates. Results of a WPA Intelligence poll taken in February reveal that DeSantis would also win in a head-to-head with Trump by 24 percent. Trump comes in second in the hypothetical race with 31 percent support – a 9 percent trail behind the Florida governor who, according to several recent polls, is remaining steady as the most popular GOP candidate for 2024.

Principal at WPA Intelligence Amanda Iovino said in a statement to DailyMail.com that polling has consistently shown while concerns grow over Trump’s ability to be the “face” of the GOP, DeSantis’ landslide 2022 victory in Florida has continued his momentum as a rising star of the party. Trump-era Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, who is also the former governor of South Carolina, earned 8 percent of the vote. She announced her candidacy for president last week with a kick-off event in her home state, which is also an early primary contest state. No other candidate included in WPA’s hypothetical election has officially announced a bid.
