BACON AND YOGHURT CHICKEN SOSATIES SUGGESTIONS

You’ll love them if you’re a fan of savoury and nutritious fare. While the chicken and red peppers provide lean protein, the bacon also provides protein, but we love it for what it is, right? The chicken is tenderised by the yoghurt marinade, which also adds some spicy flavour. They go well with tzatziki, a cucumber and dill sauce, or a yoghurt dipping sauce.

These chicken sosaties with bacon and yoghurt are a fun twist on the traditional braai dish.

BACON AND YOGHURT CHICKEN SOSATIES RECIPE

Recipe by Basson Laubscher

Course: Dinner

Cuisine: Global

Difficulty: Easy

Prep time: 1 hour 20 minutes

Cooking time: 25 minutes

Total time: 1 hour 45 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pack chicken Breasts

  • onion

  • red Pepper

  • pineapple

  • 200 g bacon

  • 1 pack sosatie sticks

  • For the Marinade
  • 1 cup plain Yoghurt

  • 2 tsp Hot English Mustard

  • 1 tsp mixed herbs

  • 1 tbsp. masala

  • chili flakes to spice

  • 1/4 cup olive Oil

  • 1/2 tsp coriander

  • salt to taste

  • freshly ground black pepper to taste

METHOD

  • Cut the chicken breasts into cubes.
  • In a bowl mix together the marinade ingredients.
  • Add the chicken cubes into the yoghurt marinade and let it lie for 5-6 hours turning it around half way through to fully absorb all over the cubes.
  • Cut the bacon into 3 cm pieces and set aside.
  • Cut the red peppers and pineapple into chunks that will fit sizeably onto the sosatie stick and set aside.
  • Start building your sosaties by placing a piece of red pepper followed by a piece of pineapple, then a piece of bacon and then a chicken cube. Repeat this process for the entire sosatie stick until the stick is 3/4’s full.
  • Once you have all your sosaties built, open up a braai griddle and place them next to one another and close the griddle.
  • Once your fire is ready place the griddle over the hot fire and make sure to turn it every five to ten minutes to make sure it is properly cooked.
  • Once it is cooked, dish up and enjoy every single piece.

NOTES

  • You don’t have to add bacon, but if you love it as much as my family does it will make a great extra taste.
