ASUU strikes, seeks cancellation of KASU exams

The administration of Kaduna State University conducted semester exams for its students a few weeks ago, pushing instructors to continue.

This comes only days after Governor Nasir El-Rufai pledged via a live broadcast to dismiss all striking academics.

In reaction to the conduct of the test, ASUU directed KASU administration to suspend all examinations until the national organization called off the strike.

According to ASUU, the test must be retaken if proper procedure is not followed.

Abdulkadir Muhammad, the ASUU-Kano Zone Zonal Coordinator, claimed in a statement that if the institution’s administration does not cancel the test, the union would be compelled to file a petition with the National University Commission (NUC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission ( ICPC).

According to him, the present KASU theatrical exercises, which the University administration has mislabeled as tests, are distinguished by a lack of coverage of course outlines and insufficient lecture contact hours.

He added that the absence of professors who taught the courses from the formulation of examination questions and supervision, student engagement in invigilation, and non-moderation of question papers are all obvious breaches of the norms and regulations regulating the conduct of exams.

“As a consequence,” he wrote, “ASUU recommends that all so-called exams performed so far be deleted in order to preserve and respect the university’s established system of assessment.”
