ASUU Strike: KASU Lecturers Kick Over Resumption Order

Tuesday, the Kaduna State chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities dared Kaduna State University’s administration by threatening to begin academic sessions.

According to the union, no threats will compel members to end the constitutionally-supported strike.

Dr. Peter Adamu, the union branch chairman, revealed this information in an exclusive interview with THE PUNCH in Kaduna in response to a statement by the KASU administration threatening punishment if academic staff union members did not return to work.

Adamu asserted that the strike was permissible and backed by national and international law.

Adamu emphasized that neither the statute nor the Staff Condition of Service of Kaduna State University impose any sort of sanctions on instructors who participate in a university-beneficial action.

“The strike action will help the entire university system, including Kaduna State University,” he added.

“If you take the time to tour the school, you will realize that the majority of its buildings are the product of this type of conflict.”

We are unconcerned about prospective threats since, even during the military government, such threats occurred and were overturned by the courts.

The strike has not been called off. We are determined to be on strike until the Federal Government answers positively.”

In response to the preceding examination conducted by school administration during the strike, the Union Chairman emphasized that it was not the union that forced the school to close.

He explained that the administration is permitted to utilize whichever method they like when administering exams.

“The school may decide to exploit old questions or anything, but we’re not going to participate, and our members are determined to continue this legal and constitutionally protected strike action,” he stated.

Adamu also asked the Kaduna State Government and students to recognize that the strike was in everyone’s best interest.
